School Programs:
Stepping Out Stepping In (SOSI) provides fun environmental education programs for kids of every grade! We are proud to give students an opportunity to explore and learn about the natural world around them at local parks. SOSI has both in-person field trips taking place at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, located in the Port of Oakland along the San Francisco Bay and "Virtual Field Trips" (VFTs) taking place in the safety of your own classroom with a naturalist presenting engaging and interactive program via Zoom. When you apply, please select if you would like an "in-person field trip" or a "virtual field trip (VFT). " Each in-person naturalist field trip begins with a 50 minute remote classroom presentation via Zoom to orient your students on what to expect and get them excited to learn! Our programs are designed to correlate with California State Science standards.
1) Read about the program for your grade.
2) Find another teacher at your school (ideally from the same grade) who can team up with you. We aim to work with two classes on one field trip date to make best use of contracted bus and to maximize our capacity ~ 60 students each field trip date is our goal).
3) Click "Apply On-Line" to submit an application on-line. Fall applications due August 23rd. Spring applications due January 15th.
** PLEASE NOTE: All OUSD schools are now eligible for bus funding. Bus funding is limited to one bus per school teacher a year. Limited supplies of buses per season. Apply early! Title 1 Schools or schools that have over 75% Free and Reduced lunch program are eligible for full sponsorship by the Port of Oakland. Otherwise schools need to pay the full fee. Please see Payment Page Here.
